1. Light the way. Turn on porch and walkway lights for trick-or-treaters.
2. Clear the path. Move hoses, planters and decorations off steps and walkways.
3. Decorate damage-free. Use removable hooks instead of nails, staples or tape that can pull paint.
4. Skip open flames. Battery candles are safer than real ones in pumpkins and near doorways.
5. Keep pets secure. Doorbells and costumes can stress pets, and an open door is an easy escape.
6. Check your lease for any rules on decorations or exterior changes.
